I’ve been working with Nicky for 30 years. Every single occasion I work with her, I learn so much. She’s so professional and she’s knowledgeable. She knows exactly where I am as a leader in the school and where our school is and she always works with us to make sure we do our jobs as best as we can so that we can support all our lovely tamariki for them to do the best they can in life.
Nicky Knight is a highly regarded education consultant and the founding Director of The Education Group, an independent consultancy based in Auckland. With a strong background in primary education, Nicky designs and delivers professional learning and development programmes tailored for school Boards, leaders, and teachers. Her work spans state, state-integrated, and private primary, intermediate, and secondary schools.
Nicky’s expertise encompasses leadership development, governance training, coaching, professional growth cycles, literacy, mathematics, assessment for learning, school reviews, local curriculum development, and fostering collaboration. She has extensive experience facilitating public and in-house workshops, with a focus on coaching, leadership, and curriculum enhancement.
Before establishing The Education Group in 2005, Nicky held roles as a consultant and researcher with Massey University’s Institute for Professional Development and Educational Research, an advisor with The Auckland Education Advisory Services (specializing in mathematics, science, and literacy), and a professional development contractor for MultiServe Education Trust. She also lectured briefly in mathematics at The University of Auckland.
In addition to her leadership at The Education Group, Nicky is the Director of Growth Coaching New Zealand, where she oversees the delivery of coaching workshops in partnership with Growth Coaching International (GCI), a globally recognised coaching organisation based in Sydney. Through GCI’s partnership with the International Coaching Group (led by Jim Knight), Nicky facilitates coaching workshops across New Zealand. Her credentials include Senior Practitioner status with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC).
Nicky earned her Doctor of Education from The University of Auckland, where her research focused on sustaining improved student outcomes and teaching practices in mathematics. A respected speaker, she has presented at numerous local and international conferences on coaching and education. Her dedication to teaching excellence was recognised in 1993 when she was awarded the Jim Campbell Award for Teaching Excellence in Mathematics.
